Scott T. Schultz graduated from Michigan State University in 1979 with a BA in Journalism. In 1982 he was named an "Outstanding Young Man of America" by the US Jaycee's. 1983 he began his investment career at EF Hutton & Co., where his ability to market new business was prolific. For example, in his first 12 months he managed to open nearly 400 new client accounts. By performing this feat he was flown to New York by EF Hutton Management several times to speak to rookie stockbrokers and showing them how to open new accounts by sharing his unique techniques.
He was then recruited by Merrill Lynch, where he began to research the unique investment vehicles known as "Closed End Funds." In 1988 Schultz took an eight month unpaid leave of absence from Merrill Lynch to run for the U.S. Congress' prior to forming his own firm in 1994 in Michigan. During his candidacy for U.S. Congress, Scott met with President Ronald Reagan, and members of his Cabinet. Additionally, while as a GOP District Chairman, regularly consulted with Pres. George HW Bush (41) and members of his Cabinet.
Scott has been featured on CNBC, CNN-fn, Bloomberg News Forums TV, Fox Business Hour With Neal Cavuto, and 100+ Radio Shows across the country. In addition, Scott been featured in "Registered Rep. Magazine", and in 2004 was featured in "Research Magazine", and has been quoted in the Wall St. Journal, Barron's, Kiplinger's, Gannet Newspapers & USA Today.
Throughout his career, Schultz's expertise garnered him recognition as the #1 Separate Account Manager for Domestic Growth by USA TODAY using GIPS verified/audited numbers sent to Morningstar's data base for a three consecutive year period. In addition, he was also named one of Nelson's "World’s Best Money Managers," and a "Top Gun" manager by Effron PSN (now Informa).
In April 2011, Scott published his “Scott Schultz’s Guide to Closed End Funds,” the definitive primer (and the first book on Closed End Funds in roughly 2 decades) in understanding and demystifying an asset class to the greater investor public.
